Callie was diagnosed with Thrombocytopenia Absent Radius (TAR) Syndrome minutes after her birth. Thrombocytopenia means she has low blood platelets, and Absent Radius means she is missing the radius bone in both arms, making her forearms shorter than normal. Other than that she is a very happy and healthy little girl. (If you want to learn more about TAR please check out the links and personal websites of other kids with TAR below.)
Callie also had Positional Plagiocephaly, which, simply put, is flattening of one side of the head. She received a Doc Band, a corrective helmet, and wore it for five and a half months and it did an amazing job! Her head is almost completely round now and once her hair grows out it will be hard to tell that there is any flat spot at all.
Feel free to follow Callie's story as she grows and deals with the various medical issues that she faces. We know she is a strong girl and will be able to deal with anything that is thrown at her. Because of this she has turned us in to stronger parents than we could have ever imagined. She is an amazing blessing to us and I know we would not have our lives any other way!
